The Institute of Biomedical Engineering (BMT) at the University of Stuttgart focuses on minimally invasive, catheter-based technologies for cardiovascular and neurovascular applications. Our research spans implant design and manufacturing, biofluid dynamics, anatomical models, and tissue engineering. We work in a highly interdisciplinary environment, leveraging strong synergies across the fields of biology, material science and medicine. We are committed to high-quality teaching, the active involvement of students in research, and international mobility with international partner institutions. As a young institute, we are looking for highly motivated researches to continue expanding our research.   

Position Description

We are offering a PhD position (m/f/d) for a highly motivated candidate with a strong interest in biomedical engineering. The research project focuses on the design and manufacturing of biodegradable, polymer-based vascular implants, building on in-house developed technologies. Key aspects of the project include the further development of the manufacturing process, fabrication of implant prototypes as well as their morphological and mechanical characterization. Additional information will be provided in subsequent stages of the application process.

Requirements

  • Solid knowledge in mechanical/process engineering
  • Strong interest in materials science
  • Very good methodological and analytical skills
  • Strong team spirit and enthusiasm for collaborative, interdisciplinary research
