ISCO-08 classification of professionals

Within the ISCO-08 classification of professionals, binding for all member states of the United Nations System, the International Labour Organization (ILO) has agreed in 2009 to Prof. Nagel's request that Biomedical Engineering professionals are listed not only in the category of engineers, but also as an integral part of the health professionals. Therefore, as illustrated in the figure below, the 4-digit occupational ISCO-08 code for Biomedical/Clinical Engineers can be assigned either as 2149 (Engineering Professionals not classified elsewhere) or as 2269 (Healthcare Professionals not classified elsewhere).
